The regional instability remains unchanged.  It’s just like to descend in a single basin where the violence occurs almost every day. Starting from attack and steal the 413 firearms in a military camp in Narathiwat’s Cho Airong district, locally known as Pileng camp at 4th Jan, 2004. Today is the 6th anniversary of the event. However, when checking it with the staff and officers it was told that only 56 M-16 rifles and 8 pistols of 11mm caliber were found and the other had not yet been recovered. It might be concluded that the track has not succeeded, while the number of deceased are increasing up to 3,000 people. Excluding many of those injured and effected people. Therefore, one question which needs to answer that what we should do to end this whirlpool of violence.

Jan 4, besides the day of unprecedented attack the military camp, it’s also the day of founding the movement group and establishing the charter of PULO in 1968. Although the forces officers attempted to prevent the catastrophe which might occur at anytime, the criminals still could cause the trouble. Two bomb blasted at two points in the middle night of Jan 4, at Joh Airong-I payee road, Baan Joh Airong, Moo 1, Juab sub-district of Joh Airong, Narathiwat while an armored car R.15134 Narathiwat 31 was patrolling in the area. Following the shooting with M-16 and AK79. However, nobody was injured or died. The second point was at Moo 1 in Khunthong sub-district, Takbai where two villagers injured.  At the same day there was a shooting in Pattani where one of local people died on Talubok-Klongmaning road, Moo 7, Talubok subdistrict, Muang Pattani.

It’s seemed that the latest violence, 4 January 2010, was not as special as those ordinary days. In contrast, it’s only ‘a usual thing’ which happens almost every day. However, such ‘usual thing’ should not be the reason for excuse of not trying to find out the way out.

Mr. Abdul Aziz Tadaein, vice president for human right division of MYT stated that the problem in the area still remains unchanged and the violence still existed. Moreover, the daily events also occur almost every day.

“The way to solve the problem, in my opinion, the state has to find out the new strategy i.e. by the way of negotiation or adjusting the justice system and even more frequently talking about Pattani City than in the past. Because Pattani City is also a channel of solving the problem in the area. Although we are not sure that whether it can solve the problem or not, I think it should be better for us to have a look with it than to throw it away. The state should set up a negotiation platform or forming up the special administrative zone in this area. Otherwise, we cannot end the violence”. Abdul Aziz said.

Vice president for human right division of MYT furthered that he believed that the violence was caused by those group who had lost their group members. Both who died by the extra judiciary killing and arrested. Regarding the rumor that there were some new militants who just finished training from the other area coming to commit disturbance, his opinion was that he believed that now every space was filled out by the militants. So no need for them to wait for the outsiders to cause the troubles.

“The outsider militants starting to enter the area since 2004. Their numbers were increasing because of the government measures themselves i.e. the justice problem. Sometimes, it pushed people to be the militants with no choice and some were forced by the circumstances”.

He furthered that when the state department announced that now the people have come to cooperate more closely. He wanted the state knew and understood that each time when the officers got the criminal into the investigation and implicated the others or even making the local people to march out, he believed that not more than half of them were sincere with the state and the rest was only illusion. Because the fact was that recently the villagers fear to both government and opponents sides. They also have to be very suspicious. Therefore, the things we saw might not be the true picture.

“The state should change its measurements especially regarding the issue of Pattani City. They should take it in view. I wish them to look at this point. Six years passed by and I always thought that why the state still using the same tools. Why they did not agree to try the new way since the old policy could not resolve the region problem. In my opinion, they were some good and bad people came down to this area. However, I believed that this point was not as important as that we did not know the future and where should we direct our journey. Accordingly, people would receive all of troubles because they must face both parties. It’s just like a watermelon stayed next to the durian. They feared to both state officers and militants. Only one thing which they wanted to listen that whether the state agrees to change and try the new tools or not. Is the state brave enough to do so?”    Vice president for human right division of MYT stated at last.
